By the Farida Floral design team. Farida Floral is a mother-daughter luxury florist in Fairfax, VA, hand-arranging flowers for Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland since 2017.
A new house is boxes, echoes and bare surfaces. Flowers are the fastest way to make one room feel finished, which is why housewarming flowers land harder than nearly any other delivery we make; they arrive at the exact moment a space needs proof that life happens there. In a region where people move as often as the DMV, here is how to do it well.
Match the flowers to the home
| The home | Send this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Modern condo, clean lines | All-green design like Garden Mix Matcha | Architectural, one-palette, fits any decor unseen |
| Family house in the suburbs | Warm garden mix, generous size | Fills a kitchen island; survives the chaos of move-in week |
| First apartment | Compact box arrangement, vase included in the design | They own zero vases yet; send the container with the flowers |
| The tasteful minimalist | Ivory hand-tied bouquet or white hydrangeas | Reads as design object, not decoration |
| You have never seen the house | Designer's Choice, neutral palette | Ivory, green and blush go with every wall color ever painted |
Why green is the housewarming color
Green carries the exact symbolism of the moment: renewal, growth, putting down roots. It is also the practical winner; a green arrangement cannot clash with paint, rugs or furniture the sender has never seen. It is the reason our all-green designs are the most-requested housewarming order at the studio.

Timing: the second week is the secret
Everyone thinks of move-in day; almost nobody should send then. Day one is chaos, and flowers compete with a hundred boxes for counter space. The professional move: send in week two, when the frenzy fades, the novelty dips, and a beautiful arrangement announces that the place is a home now. The exception is a housewarming party; for those, send the morning of, so the flowers are styled before guests arrive (never carried in at the door; the host has enough to do, as we explain in our thank-you etiquette guide).

FAQ
Are flowers a good housewarming gift?
One of the best first-wave gifts: immediate impact, zero storage burden, and unlike wine or candles, they visibly transform the space. Choose a design with its own container.
What flowers are best for a new home?
Green and neutral arrangements lead: they suit any interior and symbolize growth. Orchid-accented designs add a modern read that suits new construction especially well.
When should housewarming flowers arrive?
Week two after the move, or the morning of the housewarming party. Both beat move-in day, when counters are a war zone.
Do you deliver housewarming flowers same-day in Northern Virginia?
Yes; order by 2:00 PM EST for same-day delivery across Fairfax, Alexandria, Falls Church, DC and the Maryland suburbs; new-construction neighborhoods included, just give us the lot details.
